End-to-End QoS through Integrated Management of Content, Networks and Terminals (Enthrone I) (no. IP-507637)

Purpose: Development of an integrated multi-domain management system for multimedia communications with guaranteed QoS.

FP6 International Projects:

Digital Switchover: Developing Infrastructures for Broadband Access (ATHENA) (no. IST-STREP 507312)

Purpose: The key objective of this project was to explore and validate, in a city, the deployment / realisation of the digital switchover issue through the design, implementation and evaluation of an infrastructure, which uses a regenerative DVB-T stream for the interconnection of distribution nodes, enabling access to IP services, and digital TV programmes.

End-to-End QoS through Integrated Management of Content, Networks and Terminals (Enthrone II) (no. IP-038463)

Purpose: The ENTHRONE project proposed an integrated management solution which covered the entire audio-visual service distribution chain, including protected content handling, distribution across networks and reception at user terminals. The aim of the project was to harmonise the functionality of each individual entity – instead of imposing a strategy on each of them – in order to support an end-to-end QoS architecture over heterogeneous networks, applied to a variety of audio-visual services, which were delivered to a diverse set of user terminals.

WiMAX Extension to Isolated Research Data networks (WEIRD) (no. IST-034622-IP),

Purpose: The WEIRD project aims to exploit and enhance the WiMAX technology in a convergence layer heterogeneous network architecture, in order to cope with future needs of research user communities and to build a test-beds allowing European research network GÈANT, GÈANT2 and relevant National Research Networks, to be reachable from isolated or remote areas.

Contributions to the development of the processing and coding algorithms for video signals in multiuser wireless systems by optimizing the quality of psycho perceptual parameters. Purpose: The project contributes to the definition of suitable detection techniques for video signals taking into account the physical layer constraints typical in wireless transmission, in terms of parallel transmissions whose performance is improved by multiuser detection.
